REALLY WORTH IT! JUST TAKE A BREAK FROM WORK AND WATCH THIS!

AND IT RELATES TO RETAIL!!

  1. Wow. Seriously inspiring, gotta say.

So in terms of retail: the retail portion of this endeavor was coencidental at best, but flourished! I think one of the big takeaways in terms of retail from this case is to capitalize on the phenomenon of window and leisure shopping and transform people's time into something else. Here, as Eggers says, the success of the place was partly due to its location: it's in a shopping district where people are likeley to wander in and linger-- it's not hidden up in the 30th story of a downtown building. So how can you take people's time and turn it into something meaningful or purpose driven via a retail (+ something else) experience?

While Gilad and I got pizza at the habitat for Humanity meeting yesterday, I got the idea of a habitat store in a mall where you go in, and actually put together something that will later go in a house. Your shopping experience in the mall or wherever turns into a volunteer experience.

Another thing I wanted to comment on from the video was the superhero supply store in brooklyn: they not only sold fun stuff but (it seems) they were also environmentally responsible about it--I challenge all of us to really think in this mode--local, low embodied energy...

    cool video :)
